THE ACADEMY PROGRAMMES

Six Ways to Enter the Mat

Every course below runs on a rolling bracket system with a fixed coach and a small room. New members start on an intake night and climb by skill, not by calendar.

OPEN

Fundamentals Grappling Classes

A rolling introduction to the whole of the sport. Fundamentals Grappling Classes in Orem build one position at a time starting with the guard, the mount, and the side control. Coaches break every move into four steps and walk the room so that nobody guesses in silence. Each session ends with positional rolls and a coach note, and the programme rotates through takedown entries each month so that beginners learn standing work as well as ground work. The small-group sizing means that students ask questions without waiting behind a long line of other athletes.

The weight classes here follow the academy scale from Rooster through to Open, so a lighter newcomer can drill comfortably against similar body types from week one. Members log their own rolls in the coach note book, and progression is awarded on demonstrated technique rather than on attendance alone. Fundamentals remains the most popular first step at ACROPOLIS GRAPPLING, LLC because it treats patience as a skill and builds it on purpose.

LIGHT

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Programme

Brazilian jiu-jitsu lives at the centre of the academy. The BJJ programme teaches the guard systems, the sweep chains, the submission finishes, and the recovery habits that keep a grappler safe and calm under pressure. Class structure follows a fixed rhythm that never wastes five minutes deciding what to drill: a warmup tied to the days technique, mirror drills in pairs, live positional rounds, and a full roll for the final third of the hour.

Students progress by belt and by stripe through a printed recital that the coaches check monthly. Every athlete keeps a progress page in the coach note book. New BJJ members are matched against partners close to their own weight and skill so that the first months build confidence rather than bruises. The programme welcomes gi and no-gi athletes alike and shares the same mat calendar across both styles.

ROOSTER

Kids and Youth Academy

The Kids and Youth Academy turns play into discipline without turning discipline into drudgery. Young students learn how to fall, how to stand, how to listen, and how to roll safely with a partner. Coaches use games that hide the mechanics of grappling inside a friendly challenge, and every child earns a bracket tag when they remember a new move from memory. The class keeps a loud but organised room with clear whistle stops and plenty of water breaks.

Youth athletes aged roughly ten and older may join the competition prep line and follow the same bracket wall used by the adults. Parents watch from the limestone benches beside the colonnade and receive a short coach note about each practice on request. The academy keeps the kids groups small on purpose so that every child lands a coach note at least twice in every session and learns that respect for a training partner is the first technique of the sport.

Competition Team Training

Competition Team Training is the performance lane of the academy. Athletes who want to stand on the podium train under a separate calendar with longer rounds, video review, and a seeded ladder that mirrors the bracket wall in the hero. Every competition athlete keeps a game plan sheet, and coaches tape one match view per month so that the whole team learns to read the same grips and entries.

Camp blocks run for eight weeks before each major local tournament. The wall of seeded brackets updates each week so that team members know exactly who is on their side of the draw and which style they must prepare for. ACROPOLIS GRAPPLING, LLC took forty-eight medals last season and keeps the team honest by producing full body results rather than highlights. Competition athletes share the room with the fundamentals line but roll to a stricter clock and a sharper coaching note.

HEAVY

No-Gi and Wrestling Rounds

No-Gi and Wrestling Rounds hold the takedown end of the curriculum. Athletes in this strand train without the gi in rash guards and shorts, drilling single legs, double legs, body locks, and the head position wars that decide who steers the scramble. Wrestling rounds run on a dedicated clock with a whistle finish and a reset, exactly like a match, so that members learn to fight for every inch from the first whistle to the last.

The strand also keeps a monthly stand-up night where gi athletes meet no-gi athletes and wrestling athletes meet BJJ players at the boundary of their styles. That crossover night produces the most requested coach notes in the academy and often the most creative rolls of the month. No-Gi and Wrestling Rounds suit the athlete who wants pure movement, faster scrambles, and the gripping skills that transfer directly onto the competition wall.

Private Lessons and Open Mat

Private lessons are the fastest route to fixing a specific hole in the game. A private hour with a coach on the limestone floor at ACROPOLIS GRAPPLING, LLC covers anything from guard passes to wrestling shots to the mental side of competition preparation. Privates are booked by the block on the contact page and each one ends with a written coach note so that the lesson survives the week between practices.

Open Mat runs twice on the weekend and once in the middle of the week, inviting every member to roll free across weight classes and belt ranks with nobody keeping score. The open mat is where the bracket wall empties onto the floor and where new members meet the whole community at once. Because the academy caps the room, Open Mat never feels like a scrum; it feels like a hall of friends taking turns to learn from one another.

900+

rolls coached every month

We promise small-group mat time and a coach note at every single session, so that nobody on this floor is ever invisible.

How a Rolling Session Works

Every class at the academy follows the same rolling ring from the first whistle to the bow and exit. New members learn the rhythm in their first hour.

  1. Warmup

Movement, triangles, shrimps and safe partner work raise the body temperature and sharpen the eyes.

  2. Drill

The coach teaches one technique in four steps and pairs round the room move slowly to fast.

  3. Roll

Live rounds on the clock with a whistle reset, matched by weight and skill.

  4. Coach Note

Every member receives a short spoken note on one thing to fix and one thing to keep.

  5. Shake Hands

The session closes with partner handshakes, water, and the bow and exit at the mat edge.
